The design of this 2000 SF flat served multiple functions for the client: (1) “home away from home” when the CEO was in HK, (2) as a meeting/hotel space for VIP clients, and (3) as an event space for work functions. The client had an extensive art collection that he wanted showcased, as well as a desire to make an oasis in an urban jungle, so B Squared Design had to think creatively in terms of space usage. We designed bespoke furniture for the living room and bedroom that would be both functional and sculptural, and created spaces that evoked the feeling of a boutique hotel, using visually impactful materials, bold shapes, and meticulously sourced one-of-a kind furnishings.
There were many obstacles in terms of logistics, deliveries, and construction. The timeframe was tight to get everything done. But ultimately, B Squared Design was able to overcome the obstacles by thinking outside of the box for sourcing and materials, and working extremely closely with our amazing project manager Tina Mak of Beehive & Co. to make sure the schedule and high quality of craftsmanship was maintained.
Stanley Flat Renovation
Two 300 SF apartments were combined to create one living space for a family of 4 and their two dogs. Every available inch was used, with many items custom-made to do double duty for storage (e.g. gas-lift master bed and B Squared’s signature murphy bed that tucks away during the day). Whenever possible, existing furniture was up-cycled to be environmentally responsible.
The rooftop provided an added “room” for the family to socialize and spread out, as well as create a “green roof” with a vegetable and herb garden.
Mid Levels Living Room
This expat family moved to their Mid-Levels apartment, but found themselves missing their fireplace from back home. B Squared Design created a custom faux fireplace for their living room to grant them their wish. The installation of this special piece also helped to demarcate zones in what was formerly a large, awkwardly spaced room. A vibrant eggshell blue feature wall and bursts of color throughout gave the space an unique and playful quality befitting the tenants’ personalities.
Repulse Bay Living + Dining Room
An active family of five wanted rooms that were comfortable, classic, and reflected their love of travel by incorporating pieces they’d gathered from destinations they’d explored over the course of many years in Asia. The rooms had to be kid-friendly (i.e. durable), but also suitable for the frequent entertaining the adults liked to do.
New pieces such as light fixtures, side tables and dining chairs were sourced from around the region, while existing pieces owned by the family were given updates through painting and re-framing, thus giving the entire space a light, bright update while still very much maintaining their personal sense of “home.”
Mid Levels-West Flat Renovation
The project brief for this couple was to keep things modern, clean and simple-nothing superfluous. They wanted to show their love of the design classics, so we incorporated favorites such as the Noguchi Table and Eames Lounge Chair: masterpieces of form and function.
The parents also wanted to create a monochromatic look for their young son’s room, so that it was in keeping with the rest of the apartment in its aesthetic. We then imbued it with whimsical elements such as the hide-out teepee, that made it child-appropriate and fun.
Chung Hom Kok Living + Dining Room
The client for this project was a busy executive who needed to hit the ground running upon arriving in Hong Kong with a large family in tow, so B Squared Design was tasked with creating a comfortable, usable space that would be easy to settle into and make their own.
The client wanted a neutral palette and several zones for relaxing around the house. The large open plan was perfect for setting up seating areas for entertainment and enjoying the magnificent natural scenery.
Aberdeen Flat Renovation
This family of four wanted a bright, colorful home that reflected their zest for life. They also wanted their children to have bedrooms that they would love to play, sleep and be inventive in. B Squared Design used bold colors in selecting paint and artwork. We also gave the family a chalkboard wall on which to write schedules, do homework, and where the kids could draw to their heart’s content. The home became a vibrant space, ideal for this creative family.
Stanley Teen Bedroom
The client for this project reached out to B Squared Design on behalf of her daughter, who had outgrown her childhood bedroom, and needed an update that reflected her teenage status. The client allowed her daughter to determine the palette: pink, silver and black, and B Squared Design took it from there.
We painted the walls a vibrant rose hue, gave the canopy bed a make-over using sumptuous velvet, and added grown-up touches in pieces such as the lounge chair, bedside table, and lamps. A new desk that also doubled as display area for the occupant’s treasured belongings was installed along the far wall, and a new wardrobe with copious space for clothing and shoes was selected. The outcome was a very pleased teen (and mother) who was excited to show off her new room to friends. Mission accomplished!
Stanley Master + Kids' Bedrooms
The client asked B Squared Design to redo both bedrooms in the flat. The first task was to create a master bedroom oasis: We designed a custom upholstered bed with storage in shades of white. The feature wall behind the piece was painted a cool gray, and artwork of rainswept New York headlights was selected to complete the calming mood.
For the children’s bedroom, the client asked for furniture pieces that would accommodate both children, so that they would enjoy being in the room at the same time. They each got their own desk with bed above, so that they had their own areas within a shared space. A multicolor rug created a joyful mood, and the hanging bubble chair provided hours of entertainment.
