Mid Levels Home Interior Design

The client of this Mid Levels, flat had a very clear vision from our very first design meeting of the home that she was looking to create in the heart of Hong Kong:

  • A pared-down, sophisticated, modern aesthetic

  • A calm, relaxing oasis to function as a respite after busy work hours and hectic school days

  • Cool tones of grays and charcoals, with metallic accents and touches of marble

  • Striking and bold, yet still completely inviting and family-friendly

The living room interior became a space that was both chic and cozy. A black and white decorative faux animal skin rug, brown sisal floor rug, a comfy (but not precious) white sofa with accent pillows, and a black Arne Jacobsen egg chair set the stage for relaxation and entertainment. To make it child-friendly, all the materials were stain resistant. Finally, the wall-hung mountain bike added an urban and fun vibe, while still maintaining the sophisticated aesthetic.

In the dining room, we continued the color scheme by combining charcoal colored walls with gray banquette seating and dining chairs around a round black marble dining table. The monochromatic palette created a visually striking setting for family meals and gatherings. To add a touch of vibrancy, we incorporated abstract wall art and a silver balled pendant light to catch the eye.

The client's daughter’s bedroom was transformed into a haven for creativity. We painted a feature wall in a durable chalkboard paint, so the space could literally serve as a blank canvas for her to draw her dreams. We combined a lovely birchwood and gray felt-covered bunkbed by Oeuf, child-size Eames table and chairs, and whimsical toys to make the room a child’s wonderland of imagination. Meanwhile,  for the master bedroom, we purposefully chose every piece of furniture and textile to embody luxury: high gloss white lacquered bedside tables, black and white bedding, sculptural side table light fixtures, ombre faux fur throw, framed black and white travel photo, and a white fabric upholstered high headboard bed.

Last but not least, the large outdoor terrace was designed to be a sophisticated oasis for relaxation and play for both adults and children alike. Black and white outdoor furniture was complemented by lush greenery. The seating arrangements were strategically positioned around a coffee table/fire pit to facilitate gatherings. The long dining table provided ample space for hosting guests, making it the perfect place for entertaining.
