This wonderful family had a clear idea of the pared-down, sophisticated, modern aesthetic that they wanted to create in the heart of the city. B Squared Design helped them to achieve their desire for a calm, cool oasis-a respite after busy work and school days. We chose cool tones of grays and charcoals, with metallic accents and touches of marble. The overall effect is striking and bold, yet still completely inviting and family-friendly. Mission accomplished.
Chung Hom Kok Home
The client of this spacious home desired areas that could be used both to entertain and to have cozy, intimate family time. In response, B Squared Design created several unique and exquisite, yet comfortable spaces over the different levels of the house.
The entire project is a study in the use of texture and color, with the living room as a focal point. We designed a custom bar with variegated oak wood strips and a marble countertop. There is leather, rattan, metal, and other natural fibers in play throughout the room. The dining room further carried the use of multiple complimentary materials to create a richly layered, yet fully functional space. The atrium is a light, airy zone perfect for contemplation. And finally the custom-designed reading “nook” in sumptuous velvets calls out for guests and family alike to sit and relax.
Pokfulam Living + Dining
The client brief for this flat was to create a warm, family-friendly home that was cohesive, vibrant and full of light. With two kids and two dogs, the apartment needed pieces that could sustain wear and tear, but still look “grown up” enough to quickly transform into a space that was perfect for entertaining and enjoying the outdoors.
Southside Home: Living + Dining
With a recent move to Hong Kong, this family of five brought many of their pieces from “back home” to their new house. Upon arrival however, the client found that things didn’t quite fit the spaces the way she would have liked, so she hired B Squared Design to do a combination of reconfiguring existing pieces and sourcing new furniture.
New pieces such as light fixtures, recliners, ottomans and dining chairs were selected, while existing pieces were given modern updates through painting and reupholstering. The home’s ground floor was thus given a light, bright update while still very much maintaining the client’s classic style and personal sense of “home.”
Mid Levels Flat Renovation
The design of this 2000 SF flat served multiple functions for the client: (1) “home away from home” when the CEO was in HK, (2) as a meeting/hotel space for VIP clients, and (3) as an event space for work functions. The client had an extensive art collection that he wanted showcased, as well as a desire to make an oasis in an urban jungle, so B Squared Design had to think creatively in terms of space usage. We designed bespoke furniture for the living room and bedroom that would be both functional and sculptural, and created spaces that evoked the feeling of a boutique hotel, using visually impactful materials, bold shapes, and meticulously sourced one-of-a kind furnishings.
There were many obstacles in terms of logistics, deliveries, and construction. The timeframe was tight to get everything done. But ultimately, B Squared Design was able to overcome the obstacles by thinking outside of the box for sourcing and materials, and working extremely closely with our amazing project manager Tina Mak of Beehive & Co. to make sure the schedule and high quality of craftsmanship was maintained.
Stanley Flat Renovation
Two 300 SF apartments were combined to create one living space for a family of 4 and their two dogs. Every available inch was used, with many items custom-made to do double duty for storage (e.g. gas-lift master bed and B Squared’s signature murphy bed that tucks away during the day). Whenever possible, existing furniture was up-cycled to be environmentally responsible.
The rooftop provided an added “room” for the family to socialize and spread out, as well as create a “green roof” with a vegetable and herb garden.
South Bay Flat Renovation
A busy family of four wanted to update their flat to make it a lighter, brighter space. They also had some furniture pieces that they wanted to keep for sentimental reasons, but were open to giving them a facelift.
B Squared Design installed new whitewashed wooden floors, which automatically transformed the entire apartment. We reupholstered the family’s existing living room chairs with a new print that reflected the pool just outside the window, bringing the outdoors in. The dining room table and coffee table were painted to reflect the new color scheme.
For the boys’ room, we designed a custom bunk bed with plenty of storage and room to grow. A brand-new desk area and bookshelves were installed, as well as painting the existing closet with chalkboard paint so that the boys had ample space in their room to express their creativity. The window seat was cleared of clutter and a new cushion and curtains installed to create a cosy reading nook.
In the master bedroom, the color scheme was changed to give the couple a more relaxed, welcoming room. The pattern of the existing artwork above the bed, which they wanted to keep, was the jump-off point for other touches in the room (like the curtains) to tie everything together.
Repulse Bay Living + Dining Room
An active family of five wanted rooms that were comfortable, classic, and reflected their love of travel by incorporating pieces they’d gathered from destinations they’d explored over the course of many years in Asia. The rooms had to be kid-friendly (i.e. durable), but also suitable for the frequent entertaining the adults liked to do.
New pieces such as light fixtures, side tables and dining chairs were sourced from around the region, while existing pieces owned by the family were given updates through painting and re-framing, thus giving the entire space a light, bright update while still very much maintaining their personal sense of “home.”
Mid Levels-West Flat Renovation
The project brief for this couple was to keep things modern, clean and simple-nothing superfluous. They wanted to show their love of the design classics, so we incorporated favorites such as the Noguchi Table and Eames Lounge Chair: masterpieces of form and function.
The parents also wanted to create a monochromatic look for their young son’s room, so that it was in keeping with the rest of the apartment in its aesthetic. We then imbued it with whimsical elements such as the hide-out teepee, that made it child-appropriate and fun.
Aberdeen Flat Renovation
This family of four wanted a bright, colorful home that reflected their zest for life. They also wanted their children to have bedrooms that they would love to play, sleep and be inventive in. B Squared Design used bold colors in selecting paint and artwork. We also gave the family a chalkboard wall on which to write schedules, do homework, and where the kids could draw to their heart’s content. The home became a vibrant space, ideal for this creative family.
Repulse Bay Master Bedroom
The client of this Southside flat had a very busy home life full of the constant hustle and bustle of children, so the need here was for a room that provided tranquility - a space to recharge and relax. B Squared Design paid close attention to detail in material choices, and designed the custom-made master bed with storage underneath in rich oak, as well as the custom side-tables with brushed gold hardware to complement the statement ceiling fixture and table lamps. The two armchairs were also custom designed and built to provide comfortable reading spots made of a rich, enveloping velvet in the same deep hues of the headboard and feature wall.
